About the founder

Built from both sides of the flooring trade.

I have laid floors for a living and I run a flooring business that sells them. MyFloorPro comes out of problems I have dealt with myself on both sides: finding the right work as an installer, and finding the right installer once the job is sold.

Jamie Bird, founder of MyFloorPro

The problem

Finding an installer isn’t the hard part. Finding the right one is.

There are good installers everywhere. What the trade has never had is a decent way of knowing who suits a job, and who has room for it, at the moment it is needed.

Ringing around still runs the whole thing. A contact list that was right last year, a Facebook group, someone’s mate who “does vinyl”. You make ten calls, hear back from three, and none of it tells you what you actually need to know.

Flooring is specialised work, and the specialisations do not swap around. Someone excellent with broadloom carpet is not automatically who you want welding commercial sheet vinyl, and a crew that lays hybrid all week is not always the crew for serious prep, flood coating, moisture work, coving or parquetry.

So the same thing happens everywhere, every week. A good installer sits on a quiet fortnight with nobody the wiser, while a flooring business twenty minutes away rings around for exactly what that installer does. That is not a theory about the market. It is an ordinary Tuesday.

What ringing around doesn’t tell you

Availability
Who genuinely has room in the weeks you care about, not who did the last time you called.
Travel
Where they will actually go, and which jobs are too far to bother with.
Disciplines
Which flooring they really install, not which they would have a go at.
Specialist work
Who can weld sheet vinyl, run coving, flood coat, or handle the harder prep.
This job
Whether their experience suits the floor in front of you right now.

Both sides

The same gap, from two directions

I have been on both ends of this phone call for years, and it looks just as silly from either one.

On the tools

  • You want proper job information before you commit. The floor, the prep, the dates, the access.
  • You lay certain floors well, and being rung about everything else wastes everyone’s morning.
  • How far you travel matters. A good job in the wrong place is not a good job.
  • Gaps open in the diary all the time, and the businesses nearby that have work never know.

Running the business

  • You sell the job, and it still has to be laid, on the dates you promised, by someone you would put your name to.
  • The workload moves every week, and the crews you rely on are booked exactly when you need them most.
  • Some floors need a specialist, and the specialist you need is not in your phone.
  • When a crew pulls out, you need to know who is genuinely free now, not a list of numbers to start from the top.

MyFloorPro is being built to close exactly that gap.

Why MyFloorPro

Built for flooring, not trades in general

Generic trade sites treat flooring as one category and sell the same enquiry to whoever pays for it. MyFloorPro is a flooring site. Skills, areas and free weeks, held up against what the job actually needs, so installers hear about work that suits them and retailers get a proper way of finding someone suitable. Nobody can pay for a better spot in the results.

Four rules we work to

It has to speak flooring

Substrates, coving, welding, moisture testing, prep. If the site cannot tell a carpet layer from someone who does commercial sheet vinyl, it is no use to anybody. That is the part the generic trade sites never get right.

Don’t tax the tools

What an installer earns is theirs. The retailers that need installers pay for the introduction, so installers can take part without a lead fee, a success fee or us skimming a percentage off their work.

Straight dealing

We do not sell leads, you cannot buy a better spot in the results, and nothing costs money just to be found or invited. If a rule would not survive being read out loud in a warehouse at half six in the morning, it does not go in.

Say what is real

We are building towards a pilot and every page says so. No made up installer numbers, no testimonials we wrote ourselves, no talk about being Australia’s number one, and nothing described as working when it is not.

The matching, searching, Capacity Radar, invitations and the rest of it are still being built, and every page on this site says so. The Founding Network is open across Australia now, filling in area by area.

The founder

Jamie Bird

Founder of MyFloorPro. Owner and operator of Laid Right Flooring, a flooring retail and installation business on the Sunshine Coast.

I grew up in a flooring family. My parents ran a flooring business for decades, so rolls of carpet, sample boards and early starts were ordinary life long before I laid a floor of my own.

I spent years on the tools. Carpet, vinyl, hybrid, and the slower preparation work underneath that decides how a floor turns out. In 2019 I moved to Australia, and today I own and run Laid Right Flooring on the Sunshine Coast. We quote the work, sell the flooring, look after the customers and line up the installers to lay it.

That put me on the other side of the same problem. Selling a floor is the straightforward half. Finding the right person to lay it, at the moment you need them, is the half the trade still does by ringing around, and it is the half MyFloorPro is being built for.

“I’ve spent years looking at this from both sides. I’ve been the installer trying to find the right work, and I’ve been the flooring business trying to find the right installer. MyFloorPro is being built because the industry needs a better way of connecting the two.”
